Catron County Community Wildfire Protection Plan

Catron County residents, business and property owners – the Catron County Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) and associated Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) plans, which provide wildfire protection planning for the highest risk communities in the county, are being revised in 2012. You can learn about wildfire threats and risk levels in Catron County and participate in the process to help protect your families and property from catastrophic wildfire. The CWPPs have been developed to identify areas in Catron County at risk from severe wildfire threat and to prioritize those risks. This information can be used by residents, landowners and land managers (governments, agencies and individuals) to create strategies for hazardous fuels reduction and healthy forest restoration which will help protect lives and property from catastrophic wildfire. The original CWPP and associated WUI CWPPs were the result of the collaborative efforts of Catron County government, state and federal agencies, Catron County rural fire departments, and private citizens, and represent more than two years of effort. The county CWPP contains over 30 pages of maps, many supportive charts and tables, and GIS technology, and each WUI CWPP contains additional detailed information for communities.
